I'm originally from Tokyo Japan, moved in the states about 5 years ago with my family.
I work on wood mostly to sculpt at the moment. The medium I use will change by my inspirations and drive but wooden ball jointed dolls are my thing for now.

The dolls you make are amazing! Can you please tell me what tools do you use, to carve something so small yet so precise ? And what kind of wood? (if it's not a secret information ? :D ) It's beautifull :)

Thanks for the comment! I use micro carving knives. Set from Flexcut. www.flexcut.com/mt910-1-5mm-mi…
And another set was from random Chinese brand. Flexcut carving knives have a little stiffness when it comes to carve on really detailed parts such as lips, nose, eyes, fingers and toes. So I'd rather use Chinese brand knives for these detailed part. When I carve on soft wood such as basswood, I then use needles and metal wires for super delicate part of carving. to make a little more contrast. On hardwood, I use Flexcut or swissmade carving knives for detailed carving and that takes much more time to make the same quality contrast than as on softwood. It is sometimes better to use softwood for miniature doll making than hardwood because hardwood chips easily for mini scale... Anyways!
